Nationality: French Allegiance and why: She allies herself with aristocracy, because that is where her clients come from, and without clients, she is nothing. Social Status and/or Occupation: Poverty/Prostitute/Grisette (works in a flower shop) Belief physical description of your character: Joséphine's red hair barely masks her temper. For one in a job position so precarious and dependent on others, Joséphine knows exactly how to get it. Verdant eyes peer out from a freckled face that makes her seem younger than the age she has placed herself at, but it does her a world of good when securing customers. Josephine is pale, skinny and looks slightly malnourished, but she has been eating better since the start of her new job. The flow of francs into her account has kept her floating in new gowns and better clothing, not to mention whatever trinket or bobble the men she entertains brings her. She dresses as if part of the aristocracy, has an assistant to help her look her best, but she is aware of how quickly the tides can change out of her favor. Brief History: Joséphine has never met her father, although throughout her young life her mother told her that her father was wealthy and secretly funding them to keep them from starving. It wasn't until Joséphine was twelve that she discovered that her mother had lied about one thing. Her father was wealthy, this was true, however, he had not been in contact with them since she was born, and the little money they did have was from her mother taking up prostitution. When her mother died of consumption when Joséphine was fourteen, she found herself lost for things to do. Eventually she was hired on in a flower shop to sweep and keep the front of the shop tidy. Soon, she was allowed to arrange the flowers and work in the gardens that supplied the flowers. It wasn't until a younger gentlemen took notice of her that she recalled her own mother's secret profession, and how some nights they would be able to afford a small feast, she slowly and cautiously took his offer to keep him company for the night. The next morning, Joséphine decided that, despite her soreness, she would keep taking appropriate lovers to gain the extra money. For her part, she would take anyone who came to her man or woman and treated them both with the respect they deserved without letting herself be trampled along the way. This lucrative business has become the greater part of her life, and for once, Joséphine feels that she is in control of her own fate. She is neither poor nor rich, but settled in a comfortable place in between, living in a small apartment in Paris. Of course, how was she to know that soon she would be caught up in the Revolution in ways she couldn't even imagine. | |||||||||
